Quality chopping block stock is available from many sources, including Ikea, but I especially like John Boos (pictured below). John Boos factory (johnboos.com), based in Effingham, IL, creates beautiful countertops and butcher blocks.
To create custom counters, I cut and join pieces of countertop together to fit your kitchen layout. The wood countertops can be finished and water proofed with polyurethane or given an oil finish and used as a cutting and food prep surface.
